What to do if you are seeing YouTube's anti-adblocking warning

Update December 2024: We are currently testing a new strategy to handle YouTube's anti-ad blocking warning. When we detect YouTube's notification, we will automatically pause AdBlock so you can continue watching without disruption. The pause is temporary so if you leave YouTube and return later, it will remain unpaused until the warning is detected again.

We believe YouTube is intermittently testing strategies to show their anti-adblocking wall. While our filter list authors are working to address these issues, it's a complicated technical effort as YouTube is now displaying the wall within the video itself. In the meantime, we've provided some options below that may help.

Note: Due to technical limitations with ad blocking we are unable to address this in the AdBlock for Safari Mac app. If you use Safari and see YouTube's anti-adblocking wall, we recommend using Chrome, Edge, or Firefox (or allowlisting YouTube).

Make sure another extension isn't triggering the wall

To start, make sure there isn't a different extension or other software triggering the notification to appear. Disable any secondary ad blocking extensions and other privacy-related extensions that may be causing it to appear. You can learn more about how to do this here: A site still asks me to turn off AdBlock although it's allowlisted or AdBlock is paused

Not another extension?

If another extension is not triggering the wall, we recommend trying the following:

  1. Update your filter lists to ensure you have our most recent updates: How do I manually update my filter lists?
  2. View YouTube in Incognito or Private mode: Using AdBlock in incognito or private mode.
  3. Sign out of YouTube, clear your browser's cache, and sign back into YouTube.

Still seeing the wall?

If you continue to see the wall after those steps we'd be happy to take a look at your settings: How to provide your debugging information. If you already have an open support ticket, reply to our last message and attach your debug information to your response.

If you don't have an open support request, please submit a bug report using these steps:

    1. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar. If you don't see it, be sure to pin it.
    2. Click the gear icon.
    3. On the AdBlock Options menu, go to the Support tab.
    4. Click on the "Send us a bug report" link and complete the form.
