To save you some looking around in our Help Center, here are answers to frequently asked questions about paying for AdBlock.
Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?
We email you a receipt when you complete a purchase. If you didn't receive a receipt, be sure to check your spam folder. If you still aren't able to locate your receipt, you may have entered your email with a typo. Please reach out to us with a copy of the charge as it appears on your financial statement and we can help you track it down. Payments are not tax-deductible.
Your payment page makes it look like I have to pay for AdBlock. I thought AdBlock is free?
We encourage payment because we like to feed our families, but the vast majority of people use AdBlock for free. Just close the payment page by clicking the "x" on the tab if you prefer not to upgrade to Premium.
You opened a page that says AdBlock has been updated. Isn't that just a spammy ad for AdBlock?
More than half of our users don't pay anything for AdBlock. Many of them have even forgotten they have it. We show a page when we update the extension to remind you of the work we are doing and let you know about any new Premium features. You can disable the page if you'd prefer not to see it: Why am I seeing your payment page?
I can't pay right now. Can I still use AdBlock?
Of course you can! The Premium upgrade is optional. If you'd prefer not to upgrade, simply dismiss the update page by clicking on the "x" on the tab.
You can still support our work by giving AdBlock a good review in your browser's extension store. You can also tell all your friends about AdBlock! There are a lot of copycats out there. Be sure to tell them to get it from our website, getadblock.com, so they get the right one. :)
I don't have a credit/debit card or PayPal account. Can I pay with cryptocurrency or a check?
We're very sorry but we do not accept payment by cryptocurrency, check, money order or transfer.
Why am I being charged by Paddle?
In early 2023, we started using Paddle to process payments and act as our Merchant of Record. This was a large undertaking but it has already streamlined our efforts managing payments from around the world. It ensures our engineers can spend more time improving our products rather than handling issues with multiple payment processors. We've been very pleased with Paddle and think you will be too!
If I give you my credit card information, how do I know it's secure?
We don't store any of your credit card information on our servers. Our payments are handled by Paddle: Paddle Data and Security.
How much does AdBlock cost?
We provide ad blocking for free. AdBlock Premium is available in our desktop extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge: All about AdBlock Premium. You can find the price of Premium on our enrollment page: Upgrade your AdBlock.
I paid for AdBlock but nothing downloaded. Where can I install it?
You can install AdBlock any time for free. Visit https://getadblock.com and click the GET ADBLOCK button. We have step-by-step installation instructions if you need them.
I paid for AdBlock. I got a new computer or my hard drive crashed and I lost all my software. Do I have to pay for AdBlock again?
Not at all! You may install AdBlock as often as you like on as many computers as you have without paying again. If you have a Premium subscription, you can enable it again using the steps here: Unlock AdBlock Premium.
I'm seeing your payment page every time I open my browser. What's up with that?
It shouldn't be happening. Please see this article for suggestions of what might be going wrong and what to do: Seeing AdBlock's payment page more than once or AdBlock settings are changing.
How do I change the payment method for my subscription?
If you need to update your card information or change your payment method altogether, please contact us through a support ticket: Submit a request.
Why don't you just require payment?
That's a fair question. Michael Gundlach, the original developer of AdBlock, had this answer:
"Because I want to do this for everybody whether or not they can afford it. Because people who don't pay can still help out by spreading the word to their friends. Because sometimes in lieu of payment I get thank you notes, which are priceless. Because sometimes those who need ad blocking the most are those least able to pay. I could go on :)"
Michael has moved on to other projects, but his philosophy–that we need to keep our users first and foremost–continues to be at the heart of everything we do!
