To allow ads to show on the site you're currently visiting for the next 7 days:
- Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar.
- Click Pause on this site.
Once clicked, AdBlock will reload the page and ads will appear. The AdBlock icon on your toolbar will turn green and display a "thumbs up" indicating the site has successfully been added to your allowlist for 7 days:
Note: If you visit the site again within that 7 day period, AdBlock will automatically renew the site on your allowlist for another 7 days.
At any time you can block ads again using these options:
- Go to the site where you've already allowed ads.
- Click the AdBlock icon on the browser toolbar to open the menu
- Click Resume Ad Blocking.
or
Right-click on a page where you've already allowed ads and select Resume blocking ads.
Allowlisting Sites and Pages
There are two ways to access the allowlisting feature in macOS Safari: through the AdBlock toolbar icon, or through the AdBlock app.
Using the AdBlock toolbar icon
- Click the AdBlock toolbar icon on the Safari toolbar. Under Allow ads on this... select either Page or Site. When added to the allow list, the button will turn blue.
- You will need to refresh the page for the changes to take effect. It may take a few seconds for all the previously blocked or hidden ads to appear.
Note: Selecting "Page" will only display ads on the page you are currently on (and continue to display them every time you return to the page). Selecting "Site" will display ads everywhere on the site (and continue to display them every time you return to the site).
- Click the AdBlock toolbar icon on the Safari toolbar. Under Allow ads on this... deselect either Page or Site. Once removed from the allow list, the button will no longer appear in blue.
- You will need to refresh the page for the changes to take effect.
Using the AdBlock app
The easiest way to add a site to your allow list is by using the AdBlock toolbar icon but you can also manually enter a site through the app.
- Open the AdBlock for Safari app.
- Click on the Ad Blocking tab.
- Under "Allow ads on a site" select Manage.
- Enter the URL of the site where you want to see ads.
Pausing and Unpausing
When you pause AdBlock, you are temporarily allowing ads to show on every site you visit. You can use the AdBlock menu bar icon, the AdBlock toolbar icon or the AdBlock app to pause and unpause. Just click the red pause button to show ads. To resume blocking ads, click the blue play button.
Disabling AdBlock for Safari
You should never need to disable AdBlock entirely while you're browsing the web. Pausing AdBlock or adding a site to your allowlist will generally get you past "anti-adblock" blockades. But if something on a web page isn't working and pausing AdBlock doesn't help, try disabling AdBlock as a test. If the page displays as expected, please let us know. If the page doesn't display correctly with AdBlock disabled, then the issue is something other than AdBlock.
To disable AdBlock completely, go to Safari > Settings > Extensions and select the AdBlock Engine checkbox. When unselected, the AdBlock extension is disabled and no ads are blocked.
You can allow ads on sites in AdBlock for iOS. Please note, however, that Safari doesn't allow us to offer page-only allowlisting.
Changes you make to allowlisted sites aren't saved until you return to AdBlock's Settings page.
Allowlist a site
- In the AdBlock app, tap Settings, then tap Allowlist Websites
- Tap the text field and type the domain like this: youtube.com
- Tap Go, then tap < Settings to save the allowlisted site(s)
- Wait about 30 seconds for AdBlock to process the allowlist filter(s)
Remove an allowlisted site
- In the AdBlock app, tap Settings, then tap Allowlist Websites
- Tap the trashcan icon next to the site you want to start blocking ads on again
- Tap < Settings to save your change(s)
- Wait about 30 seconds for AdBlock to process the allowlist filter(s)
Unlike AdBlock on your desktop, AdBlock for mobile doesn't have a pause feature. If you're browsing a site on your mobile device and you don't want AdBlock to run temporarily, you'll need to turn off content blocking.
- Tap the browser menu (the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner).
- Select View without content blocker.
To turn content blocking back on, just tap the reload icon.
If you don't see the option View without content blocker, it probably means you don't have AdBlock installed, or if you do, that the content blocker isn't enabled. Here's how to install AdBlock.
Still not seeing ads after disabling?
If you disabled AdBlock and you still aren't seeing ads, or you are still seeing a "turn off your ad blocker" notification, you likely have another extension or other software preventing ads from showing: A site still asks me to turn off AdBlock although it's allowlisted or AdBlock is paused.
