Advanced pause options

Note: The methods described below work in desktop browsers on Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

Allow ads on a specific page or set of pages

To always allow ads to show on a site or page every time you visit:

  1. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar.
  2. Click the More icon (three dots).
  3. Click More pause options.
  4. Adjust the site or page slider to match the URL of the page you want to add to your allowlist, then click Exclude.

Once excluded, the filter rule will automatically appear in your list of custom rules on the Customize tab in AdBlock's Options.

The option allows you to allow ads on a specific page or set of pages, but will still block ads everywhere else, including on other pages on the same site.

To start blocking ads again:

  1. Open the page where you want to block ads again.
  2. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar.
  3. Click on Resume Ad Blocking.

You can also remove the rule from your allowlist manually:

  1. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Click on the Customize tab.
  4. Next to "Manually edit your filters" click Edit.
  5. Delete any line containing the name of the site URL.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Go back to the page you were viewing and reload it.

Pause from the context menu

Right-click on the page and select either Pause on all sites  or Pause on this site from the context menu. If you enable Pause on all sites, any site you visit will allow ads, however, all tabs and windows that are already open will need to be refreshed to allow ads.

Tip: If you don't see the AdBlock option on the right-click menu, make sure the option "Add items to the right click menu" is enabled on the General tab in AdBlock's Options.

When you pause from the context menu, AdBlock will remain paused on all sites until the browser is restarted. To block ads again, right-click on the page and select Resume blocking ads from the context menu:

Alternatively, ads can be allowed on all sites by right-clicking on the AdBlock toolbar icon and selecting Pause on all sites from the menu:

To unpause:

Right-click on the AdBlock toolbar icon and select Resume blocking ads.

Allow Ads Mode (only block ads on select sites)

If you prefer to allow ads on most sites, only blocking them on specific sites, you can set AdBlock to default to "off." We call this running AdBlock in "Allow Ads Mode," showing ads on all websites, and blocking them only where you tell it to.

Allow Ads Mode is similar to pausing AdBlock on all sites but in Allow Ads Mode you can still block ads on some websites, and AdBlock will remain in Allow Ads Mode until you turn it off.

To use AdBlock in Allow Ads Mode:

  1. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar. If you don't see it, be sure to pin it.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Click the Customize tab.
  4. Scroll down to "Stop blocking ads" and select "Show ads everywhere except for these domains"
  5. Add any sites where you prefer to keep ads blocked. This overrides all other filters.

Create a rule to unblock a specific ad

Exception (allowlist) rules always override blocking rules. If there is a particular ad you want to see, you can use AdBlock's resource page to create an exception to the rule that's blocking it.

Manually add a site to your allowlist

To add a site:

  1. Create an exception rule: How to write filters
  2. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar. If you don't see it, be sure to pin it.
  3. Click the gear icon.
  4. On the Customize tab, click Edit.
  5. Paste your exception rule in the box.
  6. Click Save.
  7. To ensure your changes are reflected, reload the website where you want to see ads.

To remove a site:

  1. Click the AdBlock icon on your browser's toolbar.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. On the Customize tab, click Edit.
  4. Look for any lines in the box that contain the name of the website and delete them.
  5. Click Save.
  6. To ensure your changes are reflected, reload the website where you no longer want to see ads.
