Pausing and unpausing AdBlock using a keyboard shortcut or context menu command

AdBlock for desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox allow you to use a keyboard shortcut or the page's context (right-click) menu to quickly pause or resume ad blocking.

In some cases the default shortcut keys for AdBlock are pre-set as follows:

Windows: Ctrl + .  (hold the Control key and press the period key)

Mac: Cmd + .  (hold the Command key and press the period key)

The shortcut is a toggle: Press the key combination once to pause AdBlock. Press again to unpause. To activate the change, refresh the page (Ctrl + R/Cmd + R).

 

Change or remove the keyboard shortcut

If AdBlock's default keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + . or Cmd + .) conflicts with a shortcut used by another extension, you can change it easily in all three browsers.

Chrome
  1. Enter chrome://extensions in the address bar.

  2. Select Keyboard shortcuts.

  3. Click the pencil icon to make an edit to the shortcut.

  4. Type the keys you want to assign or leave blank.

Edge
  1. Enter edge://extensions in the address bar.

  2. Select Keyboard shortcuts.

  3. Click the pencil icon to make an edit to the shortcut.

  4. Type the keys you want to assign or leave blank.

Firefox
  1. Enter about:addons in the address bar.
  2. Click on the gear icon and select Manage Extension Shortcuts.
  3. Clear the shortcut completely by clicking on the trash symbol. To create a new shortcut, enter the keyboard combo of your choice.

Right-click on the page and select AdBlock > Pause on this site or AdBlock > Pause on all sites:

 

If you are viewing a page or site that has already been added to the allowlist, the context menu changes:

 

To unpause AdBlock, right-click the page and select Resume blocking ads:
