Have you completed basic troubleshooting for unblocked ads, but are still running into trouble? Follow the steps in this article for additional troubleshooting options so you can get back to distraction-free browsing.

Giving your browser a little clean-up can sometimes help block ads that weren’t blocked before. Why?
Your browser cache may retain information from a previous visit to a website with ads.
A website may have created cookies on your computer that interfere with ad blocking.
Malware can change your browser settings to keep your ad blocker from working.
Browsers sometimes have bugs that make it difficult to block ads properly. Updating your browser makes sure it has any bug fixes that have been released.
Have you heard the phrase “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” It’s a popular phrase because it’s so often the solution to technical problems that don’t appear to have any underlying issue. Uninstalling and reinstalling AdBlock is the browser extension equivalent of “turning it off and on again.” It resolves a surprising number of issues, especially with unblocked ads. If you’re having trouble with ads even after trying all of our troubleshooting steps, you might want to give AdBlock a fresh install. Follow these steps for reinstalling AdBlock.
If you’re only being bothered by one or two ads, you may want to consider manually blocking them. This works well if you’re only seeing ads on a particular website and you’re browsing on a desktop computer. (Note: This does not apply to our AdBlock for Safari Mac app, which does not feature manual blocking options). Follow these steps to manually block an ad:
- Click the AdBlock toolbar icon and select Hide something on this page or right-click anywhere on the page, select the AdBlock menu, then click Hide something on this page.
- A dialog box will appear as a blue highlight follows your cursor around the page. When the blue highlights what you want blocked, click it.
- If the ad is successfully blocked, go to step 4. If it isn't completely gone or the page doesn't look right, use the slider to adjust the highlighted area. Be careful; blocking too much can break a page.
- Click Looks good.
- If everything looks good and you want to the hidden item to remain hidden, click Confirm. (Advanced users, feel free to use the Edit button and tweak the filter rule to your heart's content.)
Voila! The ad should be blocked every time you visit the site. If it doesn’t work, continue with the steps below. You can also learn more about this feature: Use AdBlock's manual blocking wizard to block ads and more.
If the suggestions above haven't helped, then the ad may have simply slipped through the filter lists. Our filter lists are maintained by each filter list’s authors; we do not maintain the filter lists. Unfortunately that means we can’t fix filter lists that aren’t working properly in most cases. The best thing to do is to report the ad to the list authors so that they can update their filter list and block it for everyone. The more reports they receive about a troublesome ad or website, the more likely they are to resolve the issue quickly.
We’re often asked if we can perform some of these steps for our users. Because AdBlock is a browser extension (and not standalone software), we’re not able to access your AdBlock settings or adjust them in any way from our end. We would love to be able to help more directly, but we can’t even see your AdBlock settings unless you send them to us.
